Winner Revealed: 15 March 2026 @ MCC Closing

Showcase your artistry by crafting a powerful choral work for SATB (with one voice division), SSA(A), or T(T)BB that runs no longer than six minutes. Choose any published text in any of South Africa's official languages and let your music speak boldly. Step into the spotlight and let your composition echo across the nation!

Composition Requirements

  • Originality: Must be an original, unpublished, and previously unperformed work.
  • Duration: 2 - 6 Minutes
  • Difficulty: Should be of medium difficulty and be accessible to an average to good amateur choir.
  • Text: In any of the official South African languages, may be sacred or secular and must be in the public domain or original (with appropriate permissions provided). It may also be based on onomatopoeic syllables or on newly created words and sounds that do not necessarily convey a meaning. If the text is not original or is not in the public domain, written authorisation from the author or copyright holder must be sent with the application. The authorisation should indicate rights for use and reproduction.
  • Movement: The inclusion of optional choreography and eurythmic elements is acceptable.
  • Arrangements: Arrangements or adaptations of existing works will be excluded.
  • Instruments: The composition may feature a maximum of three instruments, with the understanding that the primary focus of the work should be the voices. The instrumental parts should enrich the texture of the music and not merely double the voices.
  • Scores: The score must be legible and must be submitted in PDF format with a MIDI realisation or MP3 recording of the music.
  • MP3: Recording of a performance of the work by a choir required in the semifinals.
